The University of Hawaii at Manoa Department of Social Work Program from the Thompson School of Social Work and Public Health announced that Arthur Paulino, LMSW-e, has been named the Social Work Field Instructor of the Year 2025. The prestigious award was presented on May 6, 2025, recognizing Paulino's exceptional dedication to mentoring Master's level social work students during their field instruction on Guam over the past two years.

Paulino is recognized for his outstanding performance in guiding the next generation of social workers through hands-on learning experiences. As a field instructor, he has demonstrated unwavering commitment to providing comprehensive, culturally sensitive mentorship that prepares students for successful careers in social work practice.

The award specifically honors his exceptional work in mentoring students within the hospice care setting, where his expertise and compassionate approach have made a lasting impact on both students and the communities they serve.

"Arthur Paulino, LMSW-e, embodies the values of service, mentorship, and cultural humility that define excellence in social work education," said Theresa Kreif, MSW, LSW, Director of UH Manoa & UOG MSW Partnership. "His commitment to guiding the next generation of social workers, particularly in hospice care on Guam, is both inspiring and deeply impactful."

Paulino's work extends beyond individual mentorship to address a critical need for developing local social work professionals on Guam. His dedication to field instruction helps ensure that students receive quality, culturally relevant training while contributing to the island's growing pool of qualified social work practitioners.

"At FHP Home Health, we believe in an abundance mentality—where growth and opportunity are shared," said Menchu Atalig, BSN, RN, home health/hospice manager at FHP Home Health. "Our goal is to help cultivate and produce more local talent, so our entire island community can thrive. Arty is a valuable resource who empowers more students to complete their programs and succeed in their chosen career paths."

The University of Hawaii at Manoa's recognition of Paulino reflects the institution's commitment to excellence in social work education and the vital role that field instructors play in shaping competent, ethical social work professionals.

The Social Work Field Instructor of the Year award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional skill, dedication, and innovation in providing field instruction to social work students. Recipients are selected based on their ability to create meaningful learning experiences, provide effective supervision, and contribute to the professional development of future social workers.
