FHP Health Center Offers Computerized Radiography for Patients
Thursday, January 28th, 2010FHP Health Center Offers Computerized Radiography for Patients
Tamuning, GU—A little over a year after introducing the General Electric CT Scan Machine for its patients at the FHP Health Center, the FHP Radiology department has taken another step into advances in technology by introducing a FUJI Computerized Radiography System and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) for its services.
“With our Computerized Radiography System, we are now able to provide digital quality x-rays to better diagnose and treat our patients,” said Gerry Patricio, BS, RDMS, RVT, FHP Health Center. After a patient is x-rayed, the x-ray imaging plate is run through a special laser scanner that reads and digitalizes the image instead of taking an exposed film into a darkroom for developing in chemical tanks or an automatic film processor. “The digital image can then be viewed and enhanced using software that has functions very similar to other conventional digital image-processing software, such as contrast, brightness, filtration and zoom.”
The new technology is also safer for patients because the radiation dosage for the patient is also drastically reduced. The digitized image data, which includes other imaging services the clinic provides like CT Scans, Ultrasounds and Echocardiograms, are stored on a clinic-wide picture archiving and communication network or PACS network.
