TakeCare Employee Foundation Presented Grants to Guam War Survivors Memorial Foundation and the Guam Humanities Council

TakeCare Foundation awarded two $5,000 grants to local non-profit organizations on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at the TakeCare office in Tamuning.

The Foundation awarded $5,000 to the Guam War Survivors Memorial Foundation to assist with its project called, ‘Families in the Face of Survival,’ which aims to help fund their second book which focuses on the survival methods employed during the war and the diet of Guam’s people before the introduction of canned and processed foods. The second $5,000 grant was awarded to the Guam Humanities Council to aid its ongoing project, “Guam Women Warriors: Their Stories, Their Voices, Their Realities.

The Guam War Survivors MemorialFoundation provides educational information to the island community as to actual occurrences during the occupation. It provides awareness and a common connection between war survivors and current habitants of the island as well as honors and empowers survivors to share their experience which indirectly provides healing.

The Guam Humanities Council is an independent non-profit organization that provides foundational support and educational resources for the people of Guam. Their project focuses on servicewomen in the armed forces giving them the opportunity to speak and share their experiences and the transition back to civilian life through workshops, development of an online archive site and a series of film, reading and discussion events.

TakeCare Foundation is comprised of employees of TakeCare Insurance and the FHP Health Center who are devoted to charitable and educational causes that enhance the health, wellness and welfare of individuals, families and our community.  The employee-driven organization plays a major role in assisting with the contributions and the selection process.  Through their kind donations, recipients of the grant are able to fulfill their mission and goals that in turn benefit the entire community.  For more information regarding TakeCare’s Foundation, please visithttp://www.takecareasia.com/corporate_foundation.php.
